Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania houses a fantastic collection of vintage engines and other rolling stock as well as other railroad memorabilia. Most of the collection is housed inside a building reminiscent of an old railroad terminal. The collection includes: a reproduction of the John Bull, a huge snow plow from the 1800's, steam engines with a gear drive and a host of other steam, diesel and electric engines . The museum is full of details such as the vintage arrival and departure board in the hallway as you enter. It's a great place to take the kids. They can climb into the cab of a real steam engine and sit at the engineer's station. There is a diesel engine simulator for the kids where they can try their luck at driving a train. They also have a collection of model trains, seminars for the kids and other hands-on attractions . You can even view a locomotive from underneath. The displays include a dining car set up as it would have been in the 1940's, steps to allow you to view some of the cabs, vintage vehicles of all sorts and more. The outside yard is open when whether and staff availability permit . Don’t miss the observation bridge inside the building that will allow a unique overhead view of the trains. Don't forget to follow the overhead bridge to the railroad exhibits on the second floor. There is a great collection documenting the equipment and people who made the railroads a driving force in America. The museum is directly across street from the Strasburg railroad . Tips:
Summary The museum is a great family destination. Railroad Museum of
